Sacred Creatures - Mitch II
$125.00 AUD
Mitch II is an original, limited edition reduction linocut, and is part of the "Sacred Creatures Cockatoo" series.
Mitch is an iconic Australian Major Mitchell Cockatoo. He has been printed with two different coloured backgrounds - "Mitch I" has a dark grey background and "Mitch II" has a blue background.
There are 4 different birds in the Cockatoo series. The others are Polly (the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo), Gary (the Galah) and Crackers (the crazy cockatoo). Each of the 4 prints comes with a dark grey or blue background (except for Polly, who also comes with a navy background).
Each Mitch print has been through the printing press at least 9 times (once for each colour you can see in the print other than white) - and sometimes more, because if I'm not happy with a colour once I lift the paper off the lino, I will re-ink the block and do it again! Mitch's bindi and the centres of the flowers on his body are also hand-gilded with gold-coloured metal leaf.
You can see the development of Mitch (and my other cockatoos) on my Instagram page (see link below right).

How are reduction linocuts created?
If you are interested in how these prints are created, I have described the print process for "Little Creatures - Squirrel", here.
Once these original reduction linocuts have been sold out, no further originals will be available for purchase.
Please note:
- Each print is produced by hand, and has passed through the printing press multiple times to create the final image. As a result, all prints within an edition vary slightly from each other, with these small variations making each individual print unique.
- The colours of the print may also vary slightly from what you see on the screen (as computer monitors may display colours differently)
- As the artist, I retain copyright in all works I produce. Copyright does not transfer upon sale.
