Little Creatures - Antelope I
"Little Creatures - Antelope" is an original, limited edition reduction linocut.
The little antelope shown in the print is based on a blackbuck antelope fawn (or, for those who like their binominal nomenclature, Antilope cervicapra!). The blackbuck is native to parts of India, Pakistan and Nepal. According to Hindu mythology, the blackbuck bestows prosperity on the areas where it lives.
I think this particular little antelope fawn is looking very proud of himself, with his head thrown back to show off his horns. I love his cute little curly tail, his cloven hooves and the flower around his eyes.
This print is part of a series of 4 Little Creatures linocuts. There is also a squirrel, a rabbit and a fennec fox (you can see these if you select "Little Creatures" in the "Browse" dropdown box on the "Prints for Sale" page. Each Little Creature has the same leaf and flower pattern on its body, and each has a flower shape around its eyes. The leaf and flower pattern on the body of the Little Creatures continues into the ground below the creature, but in different colours. This represents the way we are all made up of the same things as the world around us.
There are 47 Antelope prints in total, and there are only 11 in this particular colour scheme, which is called "Little Creatures - Antelope I". This print has been through the press four times (once for each colour you can see in the print other than white).
The Little Creatures prints look great by themselves, or together framed as a set of 2, 3 or 4 - either with different Little Creatures or with the same Little Creature in different colours. They look fantastic framed floating in a 30cm x 30cm box frame.

How are reduction linocuts created?
If you are interested in how these prints are created, I have described the print process for "Little Creatures - Squirrel", here.
Once these original reduction linocuts have been sold out, no further originals will be available for purchase.
- Each print is produced by hand, and has passed through the printing press multiple times to create the final image. As a result, all prints within an edition are unique, and your print may vary slightly from the images shown.
- The colours of the print may also vary slightly from what you see on the screen (as computer monitors may display colours differently)
- As the artist, I retain copyright in all works I produce. Copyright does not transfer upon sale.
